GAL Air Navigation Services (GAL ANS) was very proud to honor Mariam Al Remaithi for her achievement in being the first licensed and certified female Emirati Air Traffic Control Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports (ADA). The recognition event was attended by senior management from GAL ANS and ADA.

Since childhood Mariam dreamt about a career in aviation. She started to realize her dream when she joined the College of Engineering in the United Arab Emirates University to study aircraft engineering. During her time in University, Mariam came across a flyer with details about an ATC scholarship. From that time she knew that if she could not control aircraft from the cockpit, she will be able to control the aircraft from a tower, so she joined the ATC scholarship program.

Mariam saved no efforts while training, supported by her supervisors and colleagues; she finally got to the first milestone and was certified as the first Emirati ATCO in Abu Dhabi Airports.

This achievement comes as a part of GAL ANS’ support for the role of women and their desire to succeed in all works of life in line with the UAE government’s efforts to enhance the role of Emirati women in all fields of work.

Air Traffic Control is one of the most important and rewarding professions in the Aviation industry, requiring intensive training and concentration.

GAL ANS’ state of the art Air Traffic Control Training Centre in Al Ain is an essential element in the training of air traffic controllers. The ATC Training Center has received international recognition from the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
