The existing Primary and Secondary radar reached the end of its expected in-service life. It was therefore decided to replace this radar and a tender was run, with Raytheon being selected as the preferred supplier for a replacement MSSR.

The new MSSR was funded by an external agency, and the project was supported by specialist technical and operational input from GANS.

The new MSSR had some initial technical issues, but these were worked through, and once resolved, the necessary adjustments were made by the Supplier to include the feed of the new MSSR for use on the ATM system.
